О курсе

The course is dedicated to the explanation of complicated relations between the concept of globalization and the implementation of human rights protection and promotion around the globe. During the studies the students will learn the history of the concept development with all its diversity, the philosophical controversies, and the still unresolved tensions. The students will analyze these controversies within an interdisciplinary framework and see how this approach helps to evaluate the state of human rights nowadays. During the course we will discuss the relationship between the culture and human rights (including the problems of cultural imperialism and cultural relativism), the relationship between human rights and minority rights, the rights of indigenous people, women’s rights and the right to self-determination. Another important area of the course focus is the politics of human rights, and the influence of human rights on politics.
