О курсе

The course provides the students with a general understanding of various human rights theories. It is paying special attention to the contradictions between the universality of human rights and the cultural relativism concept. Main aim of the course is to highlight tensions around human rights implementation in non-western societies and to explain why the practice, and not just the theory, of human rights matters. During the classes the students will analyze various cases of human rights protection in non-western societies, how they are interpreted in different cultural environments, in the context of the fight against terrorism or the right to self-determination, etc.
