1. Introduction to Business in Global Environment

This is the first elective course of the minor programme “Business in Global Environmet”. The course is designed to introduce the 2nd year students of different educational programmes at the HSE to the theory and practice of international business.

The course provides theoretical framework and practical insights for organizing and running business in global environment. It is designed to introduce business in global environment in historic retrospective up to the modern changes in the global business landscape. A key aspect during the course is to have an opportunity to observe and assess the performance of the global companies in covid-19 pandemic and post-pandemic era. Tactics of global business and consequences of trade disputes and international sanctions are addressed in the frames of the course.

The course is aimed at developing of student’s capacity to apply theoretical international business foundations in the context of perspectives and problems of doing business in global environment. The idea is to appeal to students on a practical level and provide competencies, insight and meaningful information for them which could be useful in their future career.

 

2. Cross-Cultural Communications

The major goal of this Course is internationalization & development of communication skills, especially in the field of business communication and Cultural Intelligence (CQ) among the HSE and exchange students. Students will acquire the necessary understanding what Cultural Intelligence is and how to use it in communication strategies and actions they take as managers, leaders and professionals. The special emphasis is placed on the skills required for effective cross-cultural negotiations. The Course supports internationalization of HSE and its status as a leading research university in modern Russia.

Students will learn basic ideas and models of cross-cultural psychology and their application. The Course offers practical training of communication skills, which facilitate usage of cross-cultural communication models and ideas in real situations. Key models of cross-cultural communication are discussed, helping to increase “cultural awareness” and SQ. Students learn international standards of modern professional quality communication.

Culture is considered at various levels, such as industry, company, department, team, interpersonal levels etc., because today any environment is a cultural mix and there is a strong process of rapid transformations of homogeneous cultures into multicultural environments. Discussions of business cases and other exercises provide opportunity for the students to step up at higher level of cross-cultural competence.


3. International Marketing

This course is one of four elective courses in the frames of the undergraduate Minor “Business in Global Environment”. The course is designed as an introduction to the theory and practice of Marketing in global dimension for the students of non-management majors - the bachelor programmes of NRU HSE. Taking into account the scope of Minor programme the primary objective of this course is to deliver a concentrated general overview of the main areas of the International Marketing, including marketing concepts, tools and technics.

The course addresses marketing issues faced by international companies caused by complexity of operating across borders. As the rapidly changing world becomes a more complex place to operate it is important to empower students with a hands-on experience to identify marketing possibilities and take advantage of global business opportunities.

The course has emphasis on developing students' analytical, critical and problem solving skills through assignments, problem discussions, interactive lectures and case studies. The students will have opportunity to develop course project in teams. The teamwork will benefit through additional expertise provided by the students of the different educational bachelor programmes that will enhance the marketing planning results and will provide valuable experience of cross-disciplinary approach.


4. International Consulting

This is an elective course in the minor programme “Business in Global Environment”, designed as introduction for the 3rd year students to the theory and practice of the international consulting.

The overall objective of the course is to discuss and analyze international consulting and to develop the students' life skills in the field of consultants’ activities. The course is designed to provide students with a set of theoretical and applied knowledge about the basics of consulting and the world practice of consulting services.

International consulting is of great importance for a highly competitive market in the conditions of problems and challenges that can be caused by both external and internal circumstances on local and global markets.

Career perspectives in international consulting will be interesting for smart and hardworking students from different academic programmes.
