Including a MOOC in Your Individual Curriculum (Virtual Academic Mobility)
Virtual academic mobility – students receive educational services via online learning platforms and/or at another institution of higher learning by studying remotely (i.e., without visiting the place of study).
If you want to take a MOOC provided by online educational platform and have it credited as the same subject in your programme or as an optional course, please study the information below.

Choosing a MOOC
Using the HSE pool
As part of the electives' selection campaigns, students can choose online courses from the pool (MAGOLEGO, alternative disciplines). If, when choosing electives, the student exceeds the number of credits as part of the educational program, taking a MOOC may require additional payment.
The system where the campaigns take place (SmartWay) has a special filter that allows you to find MOOCs in the pool of courses.
In this case, the course is included in the student's individual curriculum as a regular HSE course. Training takes place in SmartLMS.
Using external online platforms
If a student intends to take a course on a third-party platform and include it in their diploma as an optional course, or wants MOOC to be credited as the same subject in their programme, they must submit a request to the academic supervisor of the degree programme to include a MOOC in their curriculum. In this case, participation in virtual academic mobility shall be verified with the issue of a directive for virtual mobility.
After the MOOC is completed, the student should submit a certificate with a grade confirming successful completion of the course. This grade (which can be transferred in accordance with the HSE grading scale) is placed on the academic record as a final grade in the discipline with the note “on the basis of a submitted certificate”.
If virtual academic mobility was not registered, then the crediting of the results provided is carried out in accordance with the standard crediting / attestation procedure.
The diploma supplement would contain the name of the organisation (university, company) that developed the online course.

Important considerations
Please note before choosing a MOOC:
- The list of MOOCs is not fixed, which means that it can (and will) be changed before the next academic year. This should be taken into account when planning which MOOCs to take; start and completion dates of MOOCs should be considered beforehand.
- MOOCs may require considerable additional effort and time; please consider this as you plan your studies.
- Student taking part in virtual academic mobility and studying under an agreement shall pay for the educational services in full, regardless of the part of the educational services that they receive outside of the home programme. When documenting participation in virtual academic mobility, no amendments shall be made to the agreement for paid educational services with the student.
- All expenditures related to a student’s involvement in virtual academic mobility shall be paid by the student independently.
- To include a course (or a series of courses) pursued within the framework of virtual academic mobility in the list of courses stated in the diploma supplement and/or transfer thereof towards their home programme as an optional course taken beyond the prescribed number of credits of the core curriculum with the option for considering a transferred credit load in the cumulative rating for the current and/or future period, the student may file a request with the academic supervisor of the home programme, with their certificate attached.
